Dutee Chand qualifies for Rio 2016 Olympics in women’s 100m

Dutee Chand qualified for Rio Olympics in the women’s 100m event after meeting the qualification mark at XXVI International Meeting G.Kosanov Memorial in Almaty, Kazakhstan on Saturday.

Dutee clocked 11.30s in the 100m heats at the memorial tournament hence beating the Rio Olympics qualification mark of 11.32 secs.

Dutee became the first indian woman to qualify for the event since qualification started for the event.

PT Usha had qualified for the event in 1980 Olympics.

Mohammad Anas Qualifies For Men's 400m Race

The 21-year-old Anas clocked 45.40 seconds, the exact Rio qualification timing, to book the Olympics ticket on Saturday night and become the 21st Indian track and field athlete to qualify for the upcoming Games.

The Kerala athlete shattered his own national record of 45.44 seconds which he set on Friday on the first day of the same competition at this Polish city.

Rajiv Arokia, whose national record of 45.47 seconds Anas broke on Friday, finished second with a timing of 45.60.

Anas had won a silver in the Federation Cup National Athletics Championships in New Delhi in April with a timing of 45.74.

This takes the Olympic contingent strength to 100, the largest ever for India.
